Frequently Asked Questions

About MagPay

MagPay is a fully compliant umbrella payroll company designed for contractors and temporary workers who want a simple, stress-free way to get paid. We handle tax, National Insurance, and compliance so you can focus on your work.

With MagPay, you become an employee of our umbrella company. We take care of PAYE, deductions, and contributions on your behalf, unlike running a limited company, where you must manage accounts, invoicing, and compliance yourself.

Pay and Deductions

You’ll be paid weekly or monthly, depending on your agency or client’s payment cycle. Once we receive funds, your net pay is released the same day.

Deductions include Income Tax, National Insurance contributions, and our small margin fee. You’ll receive a payslip detailing all deductions for transparency.

Some allowable expenses can be claimed depending on your working arrangements. We’ll guide you on what’s eligible under current HMRC rules

Getting Started

Simply complete our short online registration form. We’ll contact your recruitment agency to get you set up quickly.

Usually, yes. Just let them know you’ll be using MagPay as your umbrella company, and we’ll handle the rest.

You’ll need to provide proof of ID, right-to-work documentation, and your bank details.

Understanding Your Tax Code

Your tax code is issued by HMRC and tells your employer (in this case, MagPay) how much tax-free income you’re entitled to before deductions are made. It ensures the correct amount of Income Tax is paid.

The numbers show how much tax-free income you can earn each year, while the letter explains your situation — for example, L means you’re entitled to the standard personal allowance.

HMRC may update your code if you start or leave a job, claim benefits, have multiple sources of income, or if your personal allowance changes. We always apply the latest tax code HMRC provides.

Contact HMRC directly to confirm your code. Once they update it, they’ll send the correction to MagPay automatically to ensure your tax is accurate moving forward.

Compliance and Benefits
